Be careful when opening any new doors. Monsters often like to hide behind
them in order to ambush you. Open the door, then back off a bit to prepare
for an attack.
When using a melee weapon; the best tactic is to bum rush the monster, land your blow, then back off quickly. A good example of a game that uses this strategy is Eternal Ring (PS2).
Tread very carefully when passing over chasms. Adjust your camera angle to look down at the ground so you can make sure you don't fall. Any fall with result in instant death.
Make sure to adjust your view accordingly based on the height of the enemy. If it is a short or crawling monster, look down when attacking to make sure you hit it.
